Buy an extra tin of pet food for the animal shelter

When you are out shopping for pet food, why not buy an extra tin of wet food or packet of dry food for your local animal shelter. All charities and help organizations are feeling the crunch as donations have shrunk drastically during the recession. At the same time, the animals needing care has increased as people abandon them when they are foreclosed, or, simply can't afford to keep them anymore.

Many animals at rescue shelters are in need of vet services and this eats a chunk out of the few donations that are received. Spending money on animal food, while obviously a necessity, has required serious penny pinching. Some centers have reported turning animals away as they don't have the finances to take care of them.

If you can add to their food shelves with a couple pet food donations, the animal shelters will be thrilled.
